Who is Chris Stothers ?

I proudly grew up in the quiet heart of rural Northern Ireland — a place that taught me the value of community, grit, and standing firm. At 20, I answered a calling and joined the Police Service of Northern Ireland, stepping into a role unlike any other. Policing through lingering conflict and hostile environments, where every shift carried weight, and every decision mattered, a stark contrast to my formative years.

In 2010, I was shot in the line of duty. It could have been the end of my life and my career. Almost a moment when I let fear take hold and hung up my uniform for good. But I refused to let my fate be dictated by another. I refused to quit, returning to service, stronger and more determined than ever before. throwing myself into the job, I went on to specialise in counter‑terrorism as a CTSFO within special operations Branch. There, I learned to operate under extreme pressure, to stay calm when stakes were highest, and to protect those around me with clarity and compassion.

Years later, another serious event brought my policing career to an abrupt end. It was not a choice I made lightly, but the end of one chapter became the start of another. Every challenge, every injury, every hard‑won lesson making me the man I am today.

Now, I bring those hard‑earned lessons — resilience, steady leadership, clear communication and the ability to guide people through uncertainty — from the front line into the corporate world. I learned that strength isn’t the absence of fear. It’s about how you move forward, despite the presence of fear. That is the heart of PerMetum.

Creating a culture where conversations happen early. Where pressure is shared. Where fear becomes fuel, not a barrier.

PerMetum

Purpose Forged Through Experience — Progress Made Through Fear

PerMetum was born from 21 years of service in law enforcement — two decades spent navigating high-pressure environments, standing alongside people in their darkest moments, and learning that fear is not something to be defeated. It is something to be moved through.

The name itself comes from Latin, meaning “through fear.” It is our core belief: fear does not need to be a barrier. It can be a catalyst.

After more than two decades protecting and serving communities, I realised the resilience, clarity, and compassion honed in uniform are exactly what workplaces need today. Every industry carries its own weight — unseen pressures, quiet stresses, and moments where uncertainty holds teams back. The skills I learned: staying steady when stakes are high, listening deeply when words are hard to find, and leading with empathy rather than authority — these translate directly from the front line to the boardroom.

I created PerMetum to bridge that gap — bringing unique, field-tested skills into the corporate world. We help organisations build cultures where conversations happen early, where stress is shared before it becomes struggle, and where people feel supported to acknowledge fear and keep moving forward.

Strength, I learned, is not the absence of fear. It is the courage to walk through it — together.
